I would love to get into yoga, but I am not in the best of shape, and I find yoga to be difficult for the out-of-shape beginner. Some of the poses are downright uncomfortable for me to be in because I’m not as limber as I feel I need to be. Any yoga fans have any advice for me?

I think you can adjust many of the asanas to your skill level. Have you tried a beginner DVD?

I started yoga in the comfort of my home with a Yoga for Dummies DVD. It helps walk you through the poses and gives you alternative ways to do the poses if you aren’t as strong as you’d like. Yoga is about movement and breathing. So keep it up, and the poses will come to you.

I had no idea that they had a Yoga for Dummies DVD! I love the “For Dummies” series, and I have many of their books, so I’m thrilled. I’m especially thrilled if it offers alternate poses for people who aren’t as strong. That is so cool!

Yoga is the BEST for any level. Don’t be intimidated snowbunny! Think of it as organized stretching. :) You will feel SO good once you get the hang of it and you will be limber before you know it.

Yoga gets much easier the more you do it, but the key is getting started. Don’t feel intimidated. You can do it!! As others have said, there are alternate poses for beginners. And if you stick with it, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you start to feel stronger and more limber. Good luck!

I tried Yoga but I was terrible at it. I felt uncomfortable all the time. I thought people were always looking at me and laughing. I stopped after a few months. You need a lot more coordination then I have.

Yoga is a great way to start out an exercise and fitness program. So is walking and combining it with a good meditation tape or some music that sets your heart to feeling good and your feet to moving.

I did yoga when I was much younger(and had more spare time!)and the thing I loved most was the head stand. It’s an incredible feeling, standing on your head! You just have to try it.
